Learn more about Paris Austerlitz Station
Gare d'Austerlitz, also known as Paris-Austerlitz, is located in the 13th arrondissement, on the opposite side of the Seine. Like Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon, the station is listed among the biggest Paris train railway station. Today, the station is home to trains heading to central-western France and the Ile-de-France region, making the station host over 20 million visitors annually. And the number of travelers traveling to Paris-Austerlitz is expected to grow to 53 million in 2030. Built in 1838 by French architect Félix-Emmanuel, Austerlitz officially opened in 1840. Fun fact: before the station was known as Paris-Austerlitz, it was called Gare d'Orléans because it was originally the central station serving trains traveling from Paris to Corbeil and Orléans.
Throughout time, the station underwent significant reconstruction and changes to support the number of incoming trains coming from France's South West region. However, when Gare Montparnasse came along, most routes serving the southwest of France were relocated.
Though some believe that Gare d'Austerlitz has lost its glory, the station is listed as a French historical monument.
